Music plasma

Sometimes I really think I’m psychic, I really do.

I had an unrealistic idea for a cool website whilst in the shower this morning. For some reason the shower is a place for coming up with website ideas as well as for cleansing.

I wondered if it would be possible to write a website that evaluated your tastes in music and could compile a list of artists you might enjoy. It would work by asking you a series of questions about what music you like or dislike.

It would go through different sections like ‘lyrics’ - Do you prefer opaque lyrics to transparent meaning? Do you have a dislike of personal songs or a penchent for negative emotions and sad stories? ‘Style’ - do you like more experimental styles, or do you stick to the charts?..

Obviously I’d have to work out a few more questions, but you get the idea. The system would then filter out a list of artists based on how closely they match your ideal music.

The hard part would be putting all the artists in the whole world into a database, so I decided not to bother with the idea.

But then Gordon sent out this link to ‘Music Plasma’ in an email and by George, if someone hasn’t already gone and done something strikingly close to this morning’s vision.
