Just got an email from Alex that was forwarded to him. It was one of these forwarded emails with a game in it. Only thing is, it’s one of my games! That’s the first time that’s happened to me – to have one of my own internet projects get forwarded back to me.

The game is Tiny Invaders. I’ve added it to the ‘On Ybiia’ section over there in the left, if you want to download it (Windows only). It’s the smallest game of Space Invaders in the world*. I’m just chuffed that despite DSA having had our old website tinywindowsgames.com taken down for alleged copyright violtions – the games are still circling around the web in some shape or form.

Today, I’m gonna get all geeky on yo ass due to two things that have impressed me in the geeky world of computing.
For the past couple of weeks I’ve been messing with a little project that I’ve unimaginatively called ‘Synch’. Synch is a little C++ application that synchronizes files between your home PC and your work PC by quietly uploading changes to a FTP location in the background while you work.
As with all the best ideas, someone has already beaten me to it though. Several times before. The nicest idea though is to be found in this article on Linux Journal. Just install a CVS client onto each machine and store your shared files in a CVS repository.
Put your browser favourites folder into a CVS repository and have seamlessly synchronized browser favourites on every PC you use. I recommend Tortoise CVS which, despite having a terrible name, takes a lot of the pain out of using CVS for the first time. I’m gonna set this up and get back to you, then Synch is getting tossed onto the enormous pile of half-finished projects that I regularly maintain.
The other rather neat idea is the spider-trap (via Blogjam). Set up a link on your website that will be ignored by search engines and followed by naughty spam-bots. When it’s followed, the IP address is automatically blocked in your Apache access file. Genius.
Ok, that’s enough technobabble for today. Just had to get it out of my system.
